    If You Was a Moklin

    Rate this audiobook

Moklins are the friendliest aliens humans ever encountered. They LOVE humans, and want to imitate them in every way they can. And evolution on Moklin is very helpful in this regard. After 40 years on Moklin, the only humans on the planet enjoy the friendship of these helpful ‘people’. There might be one little problem though. Just a tiny thing that will cause the humans to leave in a very big hurry. Not that it will do any good of course. – Summary by phil chenevert     [chương_files]

Excitement would seem far from the life of a Med Service man. Going from planet to planet in their tiny ships with just one little furry companion for company the vast number of human inhabited planets spread throughout the galaxy, spreading new medical knowledge in a semi-official way would seem humdrum and boring. But sometimes it gets way too exciting and this is the tale of one of those times. This planet tries to kill them and Calhoun and Mugratroid find themselves crash landed on a plague ridden globe, hunted and in mortal danger. And there are the surviving plague victims of course. Can they survive? Med Service men are resourceful and hard to kill. Listen and find out. (summary by phil chenevert)     [chương_files]

Lon and Cathy, deeply in love and new farmers on a far away world, found they owed their souls to the company. The greedy company had designed it that way; a one way trip to the only planet that could produce the extremely profitable ‘Thanar’ leaves. All equipment was designed to break and so dig them deeper into debt to the Company. Their crops were mortgaged for years ahead now. It had seemed like a wonderful opportunity at the time, but the nasty truth was that they were raising Thanar leaf for nothing and slowly starving in the process. This was not the future Lon wanted for himself and his soon to be bride, but what could they do? How could they and other of the ‘farmers’ escape the cruel and unfeeling trap they were in? It is at this point that the honeymooning couple Rhadampsicus and Nodalictha pass through the solar system and stop for awhile to observe the sun. They are much in love and often twine their 16 eye stalks with each other in tender playfulness, whispering sweet nothings like all couples everywhere. But then the bride discovers the tiny bipeds on the second planet and adopts two as pets. Interesting things follow. – Summary by phil chenevert     [chương_files]

    Deadly Dust

    Rate this audiobook

Murray Leinster does not disappoint with this gem of a story. The dust is deadly. It is slowly drifting down over the North American continent. Not ordinary dust, this dust is highly radioactive and silently deadly. Only one person sees too clearly that the USA is doomed and everyone in it unless this horrible, silent, death brining ‘dust’ can be stopped. And he, Doctor David Murfree, the only person to see the danger, cannot get permission from his superior to take leave from his civil servant job so that he can find the only man in America who might know what is causing this dust and perhaps even fix it. . – Summary by phil chenevert     [chương_files]

The human race was expanding through the galaxy … and so, they knew, were the Aliens. Who were these beings? Traces of them could be found scattered on planets everywhere, some very recent, but the aliens themselves were never encountered. They were obviously just as advanced technologically as humans and obviously looking for planets to expand to, just like humans. But what would happen when the two races, human and alien met? From history it was obvious that a war should be planned for, two expanding empires cannot tolerate rivals and they would clash and it could happen at any time. Would it be a war to the death? Sadly, that was the most probable outcome. Hundreds of human ships were designed specifically to frantically comb the known universe to gather information about them to prepare for war. Which was inevitable of course. – Summary by Phil C.     [chương_files]

    Matter of Importance cover

    Matter of Importance

    Rate this audiobook

The importance of a matter is almost entirely a matter of your attitude. And whether you call something “a riot” or “a war” … well, there is a difference, but what is it? Someone steals a space ship? The local police know how to handle that. A broken down freighter in a far distant solar system? That’s their normal job too. A bunch of idiots want to start a war? Just another days’ work for the boys in blue. The twisted mind of Murray Leinster takes on an Earth empire of thousands of planets and that has moved beyond armies or navies. No need for ’em any more when you have an experienced police force, eh? They’ve seen it all and everything is routine to the guys and gals of the Empire Police. – Summary by Phil Chenevert     [chương_files]

Scattered through the galaxy are thousands of worlds colonized by humans. Many have native microbes dangerous to the human immigrants. Others have diseases brought to them accidentally—or on purpose—by visiting ships. When millions of lives are threatened, it’s a job for the Interstellar Medical Service, and a Med Ship is sent to solve the problem. Calhoun is the best the Med Service has, and hard experience has taught him that often the major obstacle to curing the sick is … the sick. And removing that kind of obstacle may take very strong medicine. To find a cure for a disease, Calhoun has the help of his small animal companion Murgatroyd, a formal—a species with the most powerful immune system in the galaxy. But to find a cure for hysteria, prejudice, crime, and even war is much more complicated, requiring considerable ingenuity. Fortunately, ingenuity is something that Calhoun has in good supply… In this story Calhoon finds a planet where all the people have fled and he must find out why. – Summary by Wikipedia and Phil chenevert     [chương_files]
