Er geht nach Paris, um Hippolyt zur Rede zu stellen und seine Schwester zurückzuholen, doch der Graf leugnet jede Kenntnis von Gabrielens Verbleib. Als der alte Graf wenig später stirbt, kehrt Hippolyt zum Schloß Dürande zurück. Das ganze Land ist inzwischen in Aufruhr.
